Add Open Graph tags to your site

Sharing your content on social media is a valuable step in content promotion. But what’s even more important is that other people share your content.

Hold that thought.

As covered in another tactic, social media posts with images get more engagement. So, if you can get everyone who shares your content also to share a picture, you’ll multiply your results. The solution is to implement Open Graph tags.

If you’re not familiar, Open Graph tags are a form of structured data created by Facebook. This structured data is a systemized way to provide meta information about your page. This information includes the page’s URL, short description, and image amongst other available data.

In other words, OG tags let you put information (like the thumbnail image) exactly where Facebook expects it. It’s like leaving mail in your mailbox instead of on the driveway.

So how do you implement said OG tags?

If you’re using WordPress, you can use the Yoast SEO plugin following these instructions. Otherwise, you can follow this guide to learn how to implement OG tags on your site.
