Free shipping isn’t mandatory for eCommerce stores to offer, but it sure is close. It’s everywhere, and it’s become an expectation, rather than a bonus. Charging for shipping, especially without being upfront about it, will kill your conversions.

Of course, shipping products for free means you’ll take a hit on your margins. However, with the addition of free shipping, the average order value often increases. You’ll still earn more despite paying for shipping “out of pocket.”

While free shipping is nearly a requirement, it depends on your market too. Customers may expect free shipping for tennis shoes, but be delightfully surprised when getting weight lifting equipment delivered to their house.
